Moscow will go into meltdown when Wladimir Klitschko takes on Alexander Povetkin in the city, in a fight which by boxing’s international standards is a local rivalry. The Klitschko vs Povetkin fight is getting all sorts of publicity. These two were supposed to fight for years but something always came up. Now it will finally take place and everyone will be pleased. Klitschko is from the Ukraine and Povetkin is from Russia. Despite being in hostile territory, Klitschko says he is looking forward to the atmosphere than the Russian crowd will create.
The Klitschko vs Povetkin fight date is October 5th. By the following day, both fighters will be very rich (OK even richer than they were before). The Russian promoters paid a staggering amount of over $23 million to stage the fight. Klitschko will take 75% of that, in the biggest pay day of his career. Povetkin will also break his own earnings record when he pockets over $5 million.
There is good reason to pay both men so handsomely. Between them they share all of the major belts of heavyweight boxing, except for the WBC crown that Wladimir’s brother Vitali holds. In fact, Wladimir Klitschko is the second longest reigning champion of all time (behind Joe Louis). Vitali is currently 9th in the list – a fact that most people would be very happy to swagger around boasting about –if their brother wasn’t several places above them. The Klitschko’s have been dominating the heavyweight division for years and people have been excited for this potential match up with Povetkin. He is the only one who presents any sort of challenge, and this excites boxing fans. Check out the Klitschko vs Povetkin live stream and see it all from any computer if you can’t watch it on TV or at a bar.
